One of the most uneasy feelings is when you feel your vehicle vibrate when driving. Is it a tire puncture, did a giant pothole hurt my car suspension, or do I have a busted driveshaft? There are a few components that could be the reason the car is shaking, and the potential damage can fluctuate greatly. The most probable cause of the shaking most often happens near your wheels and tires. They plant your vehicle to the road, and if anything is a bit wonky, will notice. It could be something like a broken transmission mount or a broken control arm. These more severe failures might leave you with a broken vehicle on the side of the road.

If you recently installed new wheels and tires, the vehicle shaking could be from the tires that weren’t balanced correctly. Balancing the tires makes sure the weight of the tires and wheels are evenly distributed for the smoothest ride possible. So, if you feel the tire shaking when you are driving, it could be a tire that isn’t balanced. If you can confirm that the tires and wheels are properly balanced, but your car is still vibrating, check to make sure the lugnuts are fully tightened, and make sure the tires are inflated to the correct air pressure. If you find that your tires are causing the shudder, you should have them checked out immediately.
If the car shakes when you brake, that’s a pretty strong indicator that you might want to have your brakes checked out. The most obvious reason for your steering wheel shake is warped rotors. When a driver presses the brake pedal, the brake pads compress against the brake rotors to bring your vehicle to a stop. A smooth surface offers smooth braking. A warped surface will cause shudders when braking, like how a brick road feels rougher than a highway. Other possible causes of the vibrating include stuck brake calipers and damaged suspension components. If you notice your steering wheel begin to wobble, bring it in to get checked out.

Broken Engine Mounts – As the name implies, these parts help affix the engine to the car. If they are broken or just damaged, it can let the engine move around under the hood.
